Megadeath«Symphony of Destruction» یکی از شناختهشدهترین آثار Megadeth و از مهمترین قطعات آلبوم «Countdown to Extinction» است. این آهنگ با ریف اصلی ساده اما قدرتمند، ریتم کوبنده و اجرای خاص Dave Mustaine، نمایانگر دورهای از فعالیت گروه است که در آن Megadeth به صدایی منسجمتر و مخاطبپسندتر دست پیدا کرده بود. محتوای ترانه به قدرت، فساد و تأثیر رهبران بر جامعه میپردازد. آهنگ تصویری از فردی عادی ارائه میدهد که با رسیدن به قدرت، به تدریج به شخصیتی مخرب و کنترلگر تبدیل میشود. استفاده از نماد «Pied Piper» در متن نیز به پیروی کورکورانه مردم از قدرت اشاره دارد. «Symphony of Destruction» یکی از موفقترین تکآهنگهای Megadeth محسوب میشود و سالها پس از انتشار همچنان از محبوبترین قطعات گروه در اجراهای زنده است. بسیاری از طرفداران نیز این آهنگ را نقطه ورود خود به دنیای Megadeth میدانند و آن را از آثار نمادین متال دهه ۹۰ به شمار میآورند.
